January 18, 2022

Organization Description

Commonwealth Anesthesia Associates is the largest private anesthesiology practice in Central Virginia with over 100 anesthesia providers. They serve more than 65,000 anesthesia patients each year with the mission to provide advanced, safe, effective, and ethical care to our patients

Untitled-3Problem

Before Solvaria, Bruce Donald, COO of Commonwealth Anesthesia Associates, had one employee and did a lot of the IT work for the company himself. With an aging infrastructure and lack of staff expertise, Commonwealth Anesthesia knew they wanted a good system and environment for IT, so they sought a consultant to help implement that over time.

“Believe it or not, I did a lot of the IT…so there’s a problem.”

Untitled-3How Does Solvaria Help?

Solvaria provided Commonwealth Anesthesia Associates a fractional CIO to provide support for their IT knowledge gaps.

One of the main projects Solvaria provided guidance for was the implementation of their anesthesia information management system. Solvaria:

  • Was involved with the review, decision making, instillation and rollout of the system
  • Worked closely with the hospital staff, software vendor and internally with Commonwealth Anesthesia Associates’ staff for a proper implementation
  • Created process with the interface to provide real-time feeds from the hospital, patient demographics, and interface programs
  • Created off-site backups for improved security

Untitled-3Overall Impacts

The processes Solvaria put in place overwhelmingly helped create a functional IT environment for Commonwealth Anesthesia Associates. During the Covid-19 period, because of all the infrastructure and virtual private network, they were able to deploy all employees to remote desktops in 4 days in completely secure environments that allowed them to continue working.
